Macadamias are one of the few food crops native to Australia, from the subtropical rainforests of Queensland and northern New South Wales, where Aboriginal people gathered them long before anyone planted an orchard. What sets the oil apart is palmitoleic acid — around 20% of it, a higher share than almost any other plant. Human sebum contains the same fatty acid, and there's less of it in skin as people get older.

Almost every food crop grown commercially somewhere else came from somewhere else. The macadamia is one of the rare exceptions — native to the subtropical rainforests of Queensland and northern New South Wales, gathered and eaten by Aboriginal people for thousands of years before anyone thought to plant it in rows. Every orchard in the world traces back to those forests.

Palmitoleic acid makes up around a fifth of macadamia oil — a share barely any other plant matches. It's also a fatty acid human sebum contains, and the proportion of it in skin's own oil tends to fall as people get older.
We're not going to tell you a bottle of it replaces what time takes away. But it is the honest reason this oil behaves the way it does on skin that's drier than it used to be: it reads as familiar rather than as something sitting on top.
No. This is pressed from macadamia nuts and contains tree nut oil. If you have a tree nut allergy, skip it — Kalahari Melon Seed Oil or Grapeseed will give you a light oil without the risk.
Hawaii commercialised it, which is why most people associate the two, but the trees are Australian. They’re native to the rainforests of Queensland and northern New South Wales, and that’s where ours comes from.
